446 Stainless Steel Tubing is a ferritic stainless steel alloy of high chromium content, in the range of 23–27%, intended for superior resistance to oxidation, sulfidation, and scaling in elevated temperatures. 446 Stainless Steel Tubing has low carbon and possibly contains small molybdenum or silicon additions to boost heat resistance. The mechanical properties involve tensile strength of about 485–620 MPa and yield strength at about 275 MPa. Though not heat-treatable for hardness, it provides good corrosion resistance and structural stability in high-temperature conditions, allowing it to be used continuously at temperatures up to 1100°C.
