Stainless Steel 409 Tubing is an approximately 10.5–11.75% chromium ferritic stainless steel with low carbon content and optional titanium stabilization for improved weldability and corrosion resistance. 409 has good resistance to oxidation and moderate mechanical properties, including a typical tensile strength of 380–450 MPa and yield strength of about 170 MPa. While less resistant to corrosion than austenitic grades, 409 is reliably used in exhausts and mildly corrosive exposures. Its high thermal conductivity and stress corrosion cracking resistance make it ideal for high-temperature applications where economy and strength are both considerations.
